Why We Built This

CLOSING THE GAP · Issue 01

A welcome from our co-founder, Bryan Danek and a look at what to expect from us going forward.

Whether you are a parent standing in your athlete's corner or a player deciding to take your own game to the next level, welcome to G2G. We are a baseball academy in Dexter built to develop the athlete and the person. Before we talk about programs or schedules, we want you to know why this place exists.

When my boys were little, I coached their youth teams. I wasn't trying to build college recruits. I wanted practice to be fun, every kid to get a turn to hit, and all of them to leave excited to come back. The game was simple then, and it was good.

When my kids moved into travel baseball, I saw how much pressure families carry today. There is real value on the travel circuit. The competition pushes kids, the friendships are real, and the road trips become memories a family keeps. But somewhere along the way, youth baseball got really good at selling, and not always as good at developing.

Here is what I believe after watching it up close. In baseball, everything should be earned. Playing time, your role on the team, your shot at the next level. That isn't the bad news. It is the best lesson the game has to offer, and it carries way past the diamond.

What actually develops a player is rarely the thing being sold. It is consistent practice with real intent. It is getting stronger in the offseason. It is learning how to compete, how to lead, and how to be a good teammate. The real work happens when nobody is watching.

The travel circuit and G2G actually complement each other. Travel is where kids test their skills on the weekend. G2G is where they build the foundation, the habits, and the daily routines that hold up year-round.

What actually develops a player is rarely the thing being sold. It is consistent practice with real intent.

Strip it all away and baseball is still a simple game. Show up. Work hard. Listen. Compete. Deal with failure. Get a little better every day. Those same habits are exactly what makes a good teammate, a good student, and down the road, a good adult.

More than thirty years ago, our Plymouth Salem team won a state championship. Ask any of us about that 1991 team and the title isn't the first thing we mention. We talk about a coaching staff that held us to the highest standard on and off the field. Every kid deserves someone like that in their corner. That is what we built G2G to be.

There is more to the G2G story than fits here. You’ll find our whole statement on our Mission page.

What you'll get from Closing the Gap

This is the first issue of our newsletter. Going forward, expect three things and not much noise.

  • The inside view. Coaching notes, the thinking behind the reps, and the character and skill wins from the gym that most people never get to see.

  • First to know. Our Open House, free discovery clinics, and the moment cohort enrollment opens. Seats are limited, and this list hears first.

  • Worth your inbox. No spam. Just what is useful and what is next. You can unsubscribe anytime.

Want to see how we work? The best first step is a free discovery clinic.
